Following these aftercare instructions will help minimise swelling and bruising, support the healing process and allow your filler to settle naturally. Every patient heals at a different rate, so always follow the personalised advice provided during your appointment.
Immediately After Treatment (First 24 Hours)
For the first 24 hours, we recommend that you:
- Avoid touching, rubbing or massaging the treated area unless instructed by your practitioner.
- Keep the area clean.
- Avoid applying unnecessary pressure to the treated area.
- Stay well hydrated.
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated if possible to help reduce swelling.
These simple measures help support healing and reduce the chance of unnecessary irritation.
During the First 24 Hours
To minimise swelling and bruising, avoid:
- Strenuous exercise
- Alcohol
- Saunas and steam rooms
- Hot baths or hot tubs
- Excessive sun exposure
- Facial massage
- Dental treatment, where possible, if the filler was placed around the mouth (follow your practitioner's advice)
If you wear makeup, it's generally best to avoid applying it for several hours after treatment or until advised.
During the First Week
For the next 7 days:
- Avoid facials and facial massage.
- Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments and microneedling unless approved by your practitioner.
- Continue protecting your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF if spending time outdoors.
- Avoid picking at any small injection marks.
Your practitioner will advise you when it is appropriate to resume other facial treatments.
What Is Normal?
Following dermal filler treatment, it is common to experience:

How Long Does It Take for Dermal Fillers to Settle?
Although you'll notice an immediate improvement in volume, your final result is usually best assessed around 2 weeks after treatment, once swelling has settled and the filler has integrated with the surrounding tissues.
Can I Ice the Area?
A cool compress may help reduce swelling and improve comfort.
Avoid placing ice directly onto the skin. Wrap it in a clean cloth and apply gently for short periods if recommended by your practitioner.
