Microneedling works by creating tiny, controlled microchannels in the skin, stimulating your body's natural healing response and encouraging collagen and elastin production. Following these aftercare instructions will help protect your skin, minimise irritation and support the best possible results.
Your skin may appear red and feel warm or tight after treatment. This is a normal part of the healing process.
Immediately After Treatment (First 24 Hours)
For the first 24 hours:
- Avoid touching your face unless necessary.
- Do not apply makeup.
- Keep the skin clean.
- Avoid rubbing, scratching or picking the treated area.
- Use only the skincare products recommended by your practitioner.
- Stay well hydrated.
Allow your skin to heal naturally without unnecessary irritation.
During the First 48 Hours
To support recovery, avoid:
- Strenuous exercise
- Heavy sweating
- Swimming pools
- Hot tubs
- Saunas and steam rooms
- Alcohol where possible
- Direct sun exposure
These activities can increase redness and irritation while your skin barrier is healing.
Skincare After Microneedling
For several days after treatment:
- Cleanse your skin using a gentle cleanser.
- Apply a gentle moisturiser if recommended.
- Avoid exfoliating products.
- Avoid retinoids, AHAs, BHAs and other active ingredients until advised by your practitioner.
- Apply a broad-spectrum SPF daily once your skin is ready.
Avoid introducing new skincare products until your skin has fully recovered.
What Is Normal?
It is common to experience:
- Redness
- Mild swelling
- Tightness

- Sensitivity
- Mild flaking or peeling
- A feeling similar to mild sunburn

When Will I See Results?

Improvements in collagen production develop gradually over the following weeks and months. A course of treatments is often recommended for optimal results.

Can I wash my face?
Yes. Most patients can gently cleanse their face later the same day or the following morning, depending on your practitioner's advice.
Can I wear makeup?
Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours, or until advised by your practitioner.
Can I exercise?
Avoid strenuous exercise for approximately 24 hours to help reduce redness and irritation.
Why is my skin peeling?
Mild flaking or peeling is a normal part of the skin renewal process after microneedling. Avoid picking or exfoliating the skin.
Can I use vitamin C or retinol?
Not immediately. Active skincare ingredients should be avoided until your skin has recovered and your practitioner advises they can be safely reintroduced.
Can I go in the sun?
Avoid direct sun exposure while your skin is healing. Once advised, apply a broad-spectrum SPF every day to protect your skin.
Can I combine microneedling with other treatments?
Yes. Microneedling is often combined with treatments such as PRP or regenerative therapies as part of a personalised treatment plan. Your practitioner will discuss the most suitable options for your skin.
